The scheme aims to enable young people to step down from residential care and move to a family environment that can continue to meet their needs. Carers within the scheme will be part of a wraparound professional support team composing of a social worker, teacher, therapist and family support worker.\nFostering is an incredible journey and if you choose to join us, you’ll receive a generous professional fee, multi-agency support and fantastic training opportunities. But more importantly, you’ll also have the chance to make a real difference to the life of a child or young person. It is hard work, but also rewarding to know that you’re making a positive impact to a vulnerable young person’s life.\nKey requirements\nYou will need to:\n<ul>\n<li>Successfully complete a foster carer assessment and approval by Cheshire West and Chester Council</li>\n<li>Be available on a full-time basis to care for the young person placed</li>\n<li>Have room to support a child or adolescent in your home</li>\n<li>Be able to offer a home to a solo child</li>\n<li>Be willing to ‘stick with’ and provide a durable relationship and offer stability</li>\n<li>Like and relate to young people with complex and troubled backgrounds</li>\n<li>Be committed to providing life enhancing opportunities and life skills to the child or adolescent</li>\n<li>Live in the Cheshire West and Chester area or close by</li>\n<li>Be able to demonstrate a caring attitude that is child centred and relational</li>\n<li>Be able to offer unconditional positive regard and encouragement to a young person, even whilst challenging unacceptable behaviour if needed</li>\n<li>Support when a young person is not engaging in/attending education, training and employment</li>\n<li>Be a car driver, with a vehicle suitable to be used for fostering activities</li>\n<li>Be able to fulfil successful DBS check</li>\n<li>Be able to complete mandatory training requirements</li>\n<li>Be able to support children and young people with family contact</li>\n</ul>\nPersonal Characteristics\nCharacteristics beneficial to the role include:\n<ul>\n<li>Patience</li>\n<li>Child centred</li>\n<li>Therapeutic</li>\n<li>Emotionally resilient</li>\n<li>Physically resilient</li>\n<li>Persistent</li>\n<li>Active</li>\n<li>Flexible</li>\n<li>Interested</li>\n<li>Positive</li>\n<li>Resilient family/networks</li>\n<li>Robust</li>\n<li>Empathetic</li>\n<li>Good communicator</li>\n</ul>\nKey experience\nYou will be expected to:\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate experience of working with children and adolescents with complex backgrounds</li>\n<li>Understand the impact of trauma, attachment and neglect on children and adolescents</li>\n<li>Engage as part of the wider professional team involved in the scheme to create child-centred care and support</li>\n<li>Uphold professional fostering standards, including high quality recording and reporting</li>\n<li>Understand child development and effects on life experience</li>\n<li>Work therapeutically with children and adolescents in line with ‘our way of working’ model</li>\n</ul>\nExamples of professions\nPrevious professions suited to role include:\n<ul>\n<li>Residential Worker</li>\n<li>Police Officer</li>\n<li>Teachers</li>\n<li>Probation Worker</li>\n<li>Psychiatric Nurse</li>\n<li>Specialist Foster Carer</li>\n<li>Foster carer with additional experience of complex and challenging behaviour</li>\n<li>Ex Staying Put Carers</li>\n</ul>\nSupport\nSupport you will receive from the Fostering Team includes:\n<ul>\n<li>Regular Supervision</li>\n<li>Carers will be afforded a standard skills and training package as well as a suite of training tailored to their needs.
