About the role
Are you self-motivated, willing to learn and looking for a new challenge? We will provide training and continued learning to help the successful candidate interpret and use a range of policies and guidance to assist with a wide range of activities such as:
- Putting together packages of Road Safety interventions designed to positively contribute towards casualty reduction. This involves carrying out site visits.
- Coordinating projects and keep them running smoothly. Plan, monitor and evaluate projects while they are active and after completion to assess how well they met their objectives.
- Undertake various administrative tasks, including attending meetings with team members, stakeholders, clients and suppliers.
- Reporting on the project's progress including budgets and resources.
- Providing responses to members of the public, Town and Parish Council’s and local Councillors concerned about road safety in their area.
Whilst a Road Safety background is not necessary, you will need to demonstrate an understanding of the subject area and the ability to appreciate regulations and legislation.

This role is within the Local Traffic and Safety Team is part of the County Council’s Road Safety Team. The team are responsible for monitoring and investigating crashes on around 3,000km of roads in the County and putting in place measures to prevent future crashes. The team works closely with organisations like Sussex Police, National Highways and Town and Parish Councils to promote road safety through improved traffic management.
The team also help to identify, develop and prioritise a programme of transport schemes and local highway improvements which support the delivery of the aims and objectives of the County Council's Local Transport Plan, with particular emphasis on achieving casualty reduction, improving traffic management and enabling increased use of sustainable forms of transport.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Has a desire to promote and deliver road safety projects across East Sussex
- Can demonstrate their project management skills
- Has an understanding of road safety engineering and is committed to training to develop their knowledge further
- Has the ability to appreciate regulations and legislations
There is the opportunity for a mix of home and office-based working as part of a hybrid working model.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
