About the role
Do you have previous experience in carrying out preventative maintenance and repair works on properties, facilities and equipment? Are you able to provide on call support for emergencies and repairs as required? Whilst comfortable working ‘out and about’ and on your own, are you a good communicator and team player?
The post of Maintenance Officer is a new and exciting role within the Town Council, with the aim of enabling us to the bring many maintenance tasks inhouse instead of being reliant on external contractors.
Seaford Town Council is recognised as having a large portfolio of land, properties and assets and with this comes a significant amount of preventative and reactive maintenance works. These vary from small tasks (fixing knee rails, simple fixes within play areas, painting benches or putting up signage) to larger tasks (carrying out building maintenance, boarding up broken doors and windows, erecting seasonal beach huts or taking necessary steps to ensure public safety, such as with fallen trees or vandalised toilets). No two days will ever be the same and your knowledge of Seaford will become second to none, as you get hands on across all of the Town Council’s sites!
You would be a part of the Town Council’s Operations & Facilities team, working closely with your team members to maintain and enhance the Town Council’s assets. The team also includes an Inspector, who carries out inspections of all of the Town Council’s land, properties and assets, and the two of you will work collaboratively to deliver within your roles. You will also be required to build a good rapport with external contractors – such as electricians or plumbers that are carrying out specialist work – whilst also overseeing their work and handling any snagging issues. Previous experience with using computers is desirable (including Microsoft Office and the internet) but for the right candidate with the right attitude, these skills can be developed.
Due to being a new post, we are seeking someone who has their own van or suitable vehicle that they are willing to use for business purposes. The Town Council will provide the necessary small hand tools, materials and fixings required to perform your duties. During the interview, we will discuss the arrangements for this. In addition, we would also like to explore your availability for offering out of hours on call support, as this is a service that the Town Council is looking to be able to offer going forwards but is still in the process of determining the exact details of.
The hours of the post are 37 hours per week.
We are offering you a warm team to join in central Seaford, reassurance of a secure job with a public sector employer that understand and practises its duty of care to its staff, a competitive public sector salary and pension and importantly, a role that you can take ownership of and thrive in!
