The primary focus of the role is to ensure the council provides an efficient housing advice service including the effective operation of the housing register process and choice based lettings system. The role also includes fulfilling the Council’s responsibilities under the the homelessness provisions of the Housing Act 1996 as amended (most notably by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017). The role will include undertaking housing needs assessments, producing personal housing plans, seeking to prevent homelessness and will progress other cases through the relief of homelessness and onto the Council’s main homelessness duties where appropriate. The role includes sourcing and then managing temporary accommodation placements for customers. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of cases and will be responsible for generating all necessary paperwork at the appropriate stages for each case. Some decisions can be complex and contentious so the successful candidate will need to be familiar with the current Homelessness Code of Guidance and it would be an advantage to also be aware of recent precedent setting caselaw.
The role includes office based working at least 3 days per week (the Council currently operates a hybrid working model subject to the needs of the service). Some home visits are necessary so a full driving licence and access to a car is essential.
Knowledge of safeguarding vulerable adults and children is also required.
