About the role

In the Archives Team we care for, preserve and develop archive collections. We provide a state-of-the-art purpose-built archive facility based at 'The Keep', a partnership between East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and the University of Sussex. We seek to provide an environment where research and discovery can be enjoyed, and to preserve the documents held in the archive for current and future users.
Archive Services are seeking to recruit an Archives Assistant to work as part of the Public Service Team at The Keep. This post will work with colleagues and partners to ensure that a high-quality customer service provision is delivered both on site and to remote customers. Archive assistants support visitors to The Keep in the public research areas, and fulfil reprographics services. Archives Assistants are also responsible for retrieving documents from the repositories and therefore will need to be physically fit in addition to having good communication skills.
The role will be 16 hours per week on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have an interest in customer service and can deliver this to a high standard
- Are good communicators
- Are able to learn The Keep’s archive management system
- Are self-motivated and can enthuse and inspire others in their teams
- Are able to retrieve and move boxes of documents around the site

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
