Assistant Finance Manager
£52,584 - £55,620 per annum

We are looking to recruit 3 x Assistant Finance Manager’s in the Corporate Finance Team supporting the following areas,
- Corporate Centre
- Transformation
- Cash Control

Specific areas of responsibility for the Corporate Centre position include:
- Building strong working relationships with budget holders and other stakeholders across a diverse range of services
- Taking responsibility for managing the annual budget cycle for your allocated areas, from budget planning to monthly monitoring and closing of the accounts, providing high quality financial advice throughout
- Supporting managers in the development of robust savings plans and incorporating these into the budget planning process, identifying and working to resolve any issues at an early stage
- Proactive and effective budget monitoring and reporting across both revenue and capital that tells the story behind the numbers, working with services to identify risks and develop mitigating actions where necessary
- Compiling high quality working papers to support balances, and ensuring year-end adjustments are processed following relevant corporate guidance, timetables and legislation
- Liaising with services to provide information for budget setting, monitoring and closing in accordance with the timetable set by Strategic Finance
- Identify instances where additional specialist financial help or advice may be needed and escalate or signpost accordingly
Specific areas of responsibility for the Transformation position include:
- Building strong working relationships with the Transformation Team taking responsibility for managing the annual budget setting and monitoring cycle for this area.
- Supporting Newham’s ambitious transformation programme
- Evaluating and challenging Business cases for our front line services, building effective relationships across finance to ensure cohesion and eliminate double counting and other potential conflicts within financial plans
- Develop Benefits realisation methodology and reporting, drawing on finance and performance data to measure effectiveness of the Transformation Programme
- Drive efficiency and speed up our operational processes
- End to end redesign of key processes.
Cash Control position - We are looking for an individual who is experienced in cash control and reconciliations to lead a new team. This an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move into their first management role
- Deliver the day to day reconciliation process
- Provide high quality advice to support the organisation
- Drive efficiency and speed up our operational processes
- End to end redesign of key processes.
Qualification
- In order to apply, you need to be either CCAB qualified, or actively working towards a qualification
Knowledge and experience
- Ability to work confidently and accurately with numerical data.
- Excellent written and oral/presentation skills.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
- Ability to analyse data/information with a view to drawing logical and accurate conclusions.
