Chelmsford City Council are recruiting a Senior Building Control Technician to work within our Building Control Services Team.
The Senior Building Control Technician will provide technical support to the team manager and Building Control Officers which will include registering and validating the different types of applications that are relevant to the functions and activities of Building Control Services. The successful applicant will provide frontline support to external customers and their agents in relation to the submission of building regulation applications, initial notices, and demolition notices.
The successful applicant will also be responsible for raising invoices for building control charges and be able to answer general queries from customers either on the phone or by e-mail. Additional duties include assisting the team manager in the maintenance of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the preparation of reports for statutory returns.
To be successful for the Senior Building Control Technician vacancy you will need a good understanding of Building control legislation. You will also need to possess a good technical aptitude which will include the ability to examine, interpret and measure architectural drawings to calculate floor areas and the correct financial charges. You should be familiar with invoicing processes and have experience in using software for document processing and management systems. Prior experience in using GIS systems is beneficial.
This is a customer facing role, so you need to be able to communicate clearly, confidently, and tactfully with a range of people. You should be highly motivated and be able to work on your own initiative and with other members of the team to provide a customer focussed service. Training will be given for the specialist aspects of the role and the applicant will be required to complete a level 3 qualification in building control technical support.
