What You’ll Be Doing
Join Camden's dynamic Legal Services team, where you’ll play a critical role in breaking down barriers while embracing a risk-aware approach. You'll engage with senior officers and Members to offer high-quality legal services, with a focus on social justice. Collaborate closely with various service directorates to ensure efficient delivery of Council priorities, all while managing a personal caseload that includes high-profile and complex cases. We are seeking a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with up-to-date experience in Local Government Contracts Law. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of local government law, including contract standing orders, council decision-making processes, and relevant legislation such as the Procurement Act 2003, and its application in local government procurement and contracting. Hands-on experience in preparing contract legal cases and drafting a wide range of local government contracts is essential, alongside familiarity with the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, and the associated compliance requirements for various regulators. The successful candidate will provide high-level legal advice to stakeholders, manage complex contractual issues, and effectively navigate public procurement rules, contract governance, TUPE, Data Protection legislation, and the social value regime. With excellent communication and collaboration skills, you will engage confidently with senior officers and contribute legal insights to procurement boards and decision-making reports, ensuring a comprehensive legal service in this critical area.
You will have hands-on experience in preparing contract legal cases; drafting and advising on a wide range of local government contracts and other related matters. You should also be familiar with the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act and other related building safety legislation and also the requirements for compliance by the council of the various regulators (including the Building Safety Regulator, Regulator of Social Housing, Housing Ombudsman and the Local Govt Ombudsman).
