The Role
The Repairs and Maintenance team has the responsibility for carrying out responsive and planned installation and maintenance works to Lancaster City Council’s housing and non-housing stock. To improve service levels, meet performance targets and increase the working base, the team is now looking for a motivated individual to add to our current workforce. You will work alongside the other members of the team to maintain our homes and buildings within the district, ensuring that KPI Targets are met, and a high standard of work is achieved.
The successful candidate must demonstrate good working skills and techniques, with an ability to work on your own initiative and with minimum supervision. You must also have the flexibility of other craft-based maintenance skills to meet the demand/variety of our maintenance workload.
You will need to have good communication skills and will be expected to manage your own workflow using a PDA which will include booking appointments and liaising with other departments.
You must have an understanding and experience of working with the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure safe-working practices are always applied, whilst meeting high levels of customer satisfaction. You must have experience completing the various electrical certification required and be able to produce clear and concise reports as needed.
NVQ Level 3 in Installing and Commissioning Electro-technical Systems, or an equivalent City & Guilds Electrical qualification and AM2 practical completion is essential - along with 3 years on-site experience plus a 2391 or equivalent qualification (2 Years Experience minimum). You must also be fully conversant and trained up to the latest 18th edition IEE regulations inclusive of Amendments.
The applicant must have a good working knowledge of testing and inspection safety measures, practices, and procedures.
The successful applicant must have a full UK driving licence, as the post holder will be required to work a transient role around the district, as they will have to travel between locations and travel within the Council’s designated area. As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees’ driving licence data.
This post is permanent, based at White Lund Depot.
The post hours are 37 hours per week (Monday to Thursday, 8.00am to 4.30pm, and Friday, 8.00am to 3.30pm), however you are required for operational purposes to work 39 hours per week. As this is in excess of the standard 37-hour week, you will accrue 1 day’s leave for every 20 days worked.
Occasional flexibility in working hours is expected along with Out of Hours call out cover using a company issued vehicle. (On Rota)
The successful candidate will be subject to a basic clearance with the Disclosure & Barring Service.
