Chelmsford City Council are recruiting a Senior Building Control Officer to work within our Building Control Services Team.
The Senior Building Control Officer will work as part of a team responsible for assisting in the enforcement of the Building Regulations. Responsibilities include assessing plans for compliance with the Building Regulations and undertaking site visits to carry out various inspections on building works, reported dangerous structures and demolitions as well as keeping accurate records relating to all decisions made and providing advice to construction professionals, building owners and members of the public, acting as lead officer on more complex projects and non-standard building types.
The ideal applicant will have an excellent knowledge of construction technology and the building process as well possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills, IT literacy skills and possess a full driving licence with access to a vehicle. The successful applicant for the Senior Building Control Officer vacancy must possess a relevant qualification, such as a degree or equivalent in a subject such as Building Surveying or Building Control and a sound knowledge of the relevant provisions in The Building Act 1984, The Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations 2010 and associated Approved Documents. It is essential to have a membership for a relevant professional body such as the RICS, CABE or CIOB and are registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Class 2 (A- F) or Class 3 (specialist) or in the process of undertaking a competency validation.
Further responsibilities include the deputising for the Building Control Team Manager in their absence, supervising daily workloads within the team and ensuring service delivery is met. We are therefore looking for someone with drive and ambition and managerial aspirations to assist the building control manager to take the service forward under the new building control regime.
