This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Specialist Advice and Support Service (SEND SAS) who have a vacancy for a Qualified Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (QToD).
This role is peripatetic, working with schools, early years settings and families (0-25) to ensure our deaf CYP receive the best possible provision to meet their needs.
About the role
Our SEND SAS teams work with children and young people with a range of special educational needs. You will be responsible for ensuring that the educational and developmental progress of children and young people (0-25), who are deaf or have hearing loss is met in line with the Hertfordshire Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and HCC strategic objectives.
You'll be working with Health professionals and parents/carers from the point of diagnosis to support effective use of listening technology, language development and social emotional wellbeing. You will provide effective high-quality advice and support to children, young people, their families, and settings including the development, delivery and evaluation of training packages. You'll be responsible for your own caseload, organising visits and writing reports. Each day is different and there will be many opportunities to work collaboratively with other agencies.

We would like to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated QToD to join our friendly, experienced team supporting deaf babies, children and young people in Hertfordshire.

This role requires you to have/be:
• Educated to degree level, with Qualified Teacher Status, and hold the Mandatory Qualification to teach deaf children or be working towards this.
• British Sign Language qualification at Level 2 or above and/or willingness to train unless you are a native/first language BSL user.
• Minimum five years relevant and successful teaching experience, including recent classroom experience, practice knowledge for the specialism area or be employed within an advisory service.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexibly, independently and contribute to the wider team within the Service.
• Ability to be organised and meet deadlines.
• Excellent ICT skills.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
