We have an exciting opportunity in our busy Accounts Payable team. Our team ensures accurate and timely payment to our suppliers throughout the county. As a payments assistant you will support in the administration of the payment processes for all council services, including schools and social care.
Experience in accounts payable, or in a similar role, is an advantage but not essential. However, we do need you to have excellent numerical, literacy, analytical and computer skills, including in data entry. You enjoy working at pace, responding to changing priorities and meeting deadlines. You also have a talent with helping colleagues and dealing with customer queries.
Main Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities will be to:
- Process invoices and other related documents, promptly and accurately whilst ensuring adherence to our policies and procedures.
- Assist with administration on purchase card processes.
- Assist in the maintenance of the supplier database.
- Match invoices and goods received notes within the finance system.
- Administering telephone and email enquiries by liaising with internal and external customers taking any appropriate action.
- Understand and support suppliers and colleagues in relation to payment regulations and processes.
- General office duties and administrative support.
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you’ll need to have
- A good level of general education as demonstrated by at least four GCSEs grade 4 and above, or equivalent, including Maths and English.
- Experience in finance, or in similar role.
- Outstanding people and communication skills to be able to explain complex processes to a wide audience.
- Excellent administrative skills, and attention to detail whilst dealing with multiple tasks.
- Good numerical, literacy, analytical and computer skills, including in data entry.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and ability to use main applications.
- Thrive whilst working at pace, responding to changing priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work on your own initiative, and as part of a team.
