About the role
Are you an experienced people manager who would welcome the opportunity to make a positive impact in a new role?
Leading the Library and Information Service, you will be responsible for driving standards in the delivery of the service. We are looking for someone with a passion to understand our customers’ needs and ensure that our services are designed to meet these requirements. You do not need a background in the delivery of Library Services to apply for this role.
About you
- An ability to lead, manage, develop, and motivate teams to deliver high-quality services
- A track record in strategy development, business planning and the implementation of projects across a whole service and multiple site locations
- Experience of setting objectives and effectively planning finances and resources
- Skills in planning, organising, and delivering multiple activities
- Ability to deliver multiple projects in a context where priorities could evolve at pace
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate simply, clearly, engagingly, in person and in writing
About the service
East Sussex Library and Information Service prides itself on delivering high quality customer service to the residents of East Sussex through its network of 17 libraries and online offer. We are looking for someone who will ensure our libraries are managed efficiently and effectively with customer service at the heart of service delivery.
The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the service. It is important that you are visible and hands-on in supporting the team. Bringing energy, initiative, and a structured approach to your work, you will be capable of responding effectively to service demands, whilst delivering longer-term projects and ensuring compliance with any legislative changes relating to the service.
You will be encouraged to develop in the role and, therefore, you will need to be eager to learn all elements of the role.
With this role there are opportunities for home working. However, there is an expectation that you are highly visible and will regularly work from the library buildings.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
