About the role

Starting Date: 1st September 2025

Early Years, Key Stages 1 & 2

Following the retirement of our existing headteacher the governors of Ashdown Primary School are seeking a new leader for our popular, and regularly oversubscribed, split site school in the beautiful area of East Sussex, close to the Ashdown Forest.

The candidate will be a dynamic, experienced and inspirational leader who will have the opportunity to build on the successes of our school and shape its future. Ideally, they will be someone who possesses strong leadership qualities as well as a proven track record of delivering strong educational outcomes and school improvement. They should have a deep commitment to our school’s visions and values.

Our new Headteacher will:

  • Be an aspirational strategic leader.
  • Have high expectations of all pupils’ attainment, behaviour and attendance, and the skills needed to translate these expectations into pupils achieving their full potential.
  • Demonstrate our school values of Respect, Resilience, Opportunity, Support and Trust.
  • Recognise and nurture what makes our school unique.
  • Be financially astute with a good understanding of school budget setting and financial management.
  • Have a proven track record of raising standards, who can inspire and motivate others, ensuring staff are supported, valued and encouraged.
  • Be a leader who can maintain and further develop a cohesive school culture across two remote sites.
  • Have a strong sense of community and community engagement.
  • Be committed to high standards of teaching and professional development of staff.
  • Build on our achievements pushing the school to even greater success.
  • Prioritise the wellbeing of our children and staff.

We offer our staff:

  • Fantastic children with outstanding behaviour who strive to achieve their best.
  • An opportunity to be part of a nurturing and creative environment dedicated to keeping the children at the heart of everything.
  • A school recently judged to be good by Ofsted.
  • A warm positive working environment with an enthusiastic, dynamic and supportive staff where everyone is valued and encouraged to succeed.
  • Committed governors, an enthusiastic and active PTA and engaged parents and carers.
  • A stimulating and exciting curriculum well supported with trips and events.
  • Excellent facilities to support teaching including all weather play areas, sporting facilities, swimming pool, wildlife areas and a community orchard.
  • Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of everyone within our school community.

Please note that recruitment packs for this vacancy will only be provided directly to an individual considering applying to our school for this opportunity.  This school does not enter into business with Recruitment Agencies, or other commercial organisations, on behalf of their client’s seeking employment.

Ashdown Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
