The Senior Parks and Cemetery Officer will have responsibility for the Council’s Parks in Grantham - Wyndham Park, Queen Elizabeth Park and Dysart Park ensuring that a high standard of service is delivered in line with park management plans and will contribute towards the Council’s vision to build healthy and strong communities. Having responsibility for the Council’s burial ground in Grantham the post holder will ensure that an efficient and sympathetic service is provided and will also be responsible for managing the contractual arrangements with Dignity in relation to the crematorium.
Key responsibilities will involve:
- Support the development and management of Grantham’s main parks – Wyndham Park, Queen Elizabeth Park and Dysart Park.
- Develop policies and procedures to ensure that the Council’s Parks, Cemetery and Crematorium services are delivered to a high standard, and adhere to Health and Safety best practice.
- Identify areas for self and staff development and address any training required.
- Ensure there are appropriate staff resources to deliver park services and activities in line with requirements
- Support the growth and development of the Council’s volunteer network
- Liaise with park stakeholders such as the Wyndham Park Forum, Queen Elizabeth Park Forum and Volunteers and Friends of Dysart Park Action Group through the Council’s Park Stakeholder Meetings.
- Manage the Community Payback volunteer scheme to ensure that the service provided is as required and to standard.
- As the Premises Responsible Person ensure the buildings and premises have appropriate arrangements in place including all compliance and health and safety documentation and that facilities are maintained in line with the Councils wider assets.
- Retain the Green Flag accreditation currently in place for Wyndham Park, Queen Elizabeth Park and Dysart Park.
- Development and monitoring of individual Park Management Action Plans for each park.
- Ensure that Action Plans within the Park Management Plans are delivered and prioritised according to available budgets.
- Identify funding opportunities to support the financial sustainability of the Council and to maximise opportunities for investment in the parks.
- Review parks key performance indicators within the Park Management Plans
- Manage the Council’s contract with Dignity for the provision of crematorium services.
- Liaise with Dignity regarding cemetery bookings and process the financial administration relating to these, whilst ensuring that bereaved families are dealt with sensitively and in line with Council procedures.
- Carry out regular inspections of the Grantham Parks and Cemetery, being the point of contact for any issues arising and resolving in line with Council processes.
- Liaise with the Council’s grounds maintenance service to allocate and dig graves when necessary.
- Ensure the Council’s financial procedures are adhered to at all times in relation to the ordering of goods and services including the raising and receipting of orders, according to available budgets.
Carry out visual inspections of play equipment within the three Grantham parks ensuring records are kept up to date and any resulting remedial works are prioritised and undertaken in accordance with the Council’s Play Area Strategy
