The Statutory SEND Assessment Team focus on working with families and professionals whilst undertaking the statutory assessment process.
About the role
The role of the Casework Assistant is to be responsible for supporting the statutory assessment process, ensuring that families have relevant and purposeful information and advice from weeks 0 to 20. Statutory responsibilities include coordinating multi-agency assessments of education, health and care and ensuring that Education, Health and Care Plans are up to date and reflect the needs of the child and the provision they require.

The Case Assistant needs to engage with professionals across education, health and care to support the decision making and assessment process, including:
- Supporting the EHC coordinator with a range of casework activities, including Supporting casework relating to placement - which could include research, contacting schools to discuss cases, amendments and finalising of EHC plans
- To input and maintain accurate and comprehensive database records as required, and participate in the Local Authority's systems for monitoring and quality assurance for children and young people with EHC plans.
- To work collaboratively with professionals across education, health and care services to ensure effective case management, integrated working practice and successful outcomes for children.
- To participate occasionally in a range of meetings with other professionals and parents/carers in relation to individual children.
- Contribute to the development of policy, procedures and provision for children with SEN children's needs, which includes maintaining an up to date knowledge relating to SEN casework, changes to national legislation and departmental policies, and supporting induction/training and support to all team members.
About you
Essential:
- Basic knowledge of SEND and experience of working with families
- Excellent organisation skills including an ability to work independently, systematically and work with conflicting demands
- Excellent customer service skills using verbal and written communication methods.
- The ability to undertake a variety of administrative tasks, operating within departmental policies and procedures
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Together with self-motivation and the ability to work unsupervised.
- Some travel to meetings may be necessary.

- A good understanding and experience of SEND of working with families
