About us
The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.
We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.
We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector.
We value diversity and encourage applications from all sections of the community to this high-profile role.
About the role
The LGA pension team works with and on behalf of administering authorities of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) in England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. As part of the team, you will play an important role in the legislative and administrative framework of the largest funded pension scheme in the UK.
We are looking for a high performing individual to work as part of the LGPS Training and Development Team. The successful candidate will develop, co-ordinate and deliver high quality training to pension administrators, scheme employers, councillors and local pension board members both in person and virtually.
You will also assist in the delivery of an LGPS specific qualification. This will include writing course material and assessments, organising and delivering tutorials and liaising with the qualification provider and students.
We encourage flexible working at the LGA. This post is offered as a home or office based (Westminster) contract. The salary for a home based worker ranges from £58,831 to £69,013 a year. The salary for an office based worker includes London Weighting and ranges from £63,015 to £73,197.
About you
You will have a good working knowledge of the LGPS and be comfortable in interpreting and explaining complex legislation. Experience of delivering training using a variety of formats, ideally in a pension setting, is essential.
You will also have excellent IT skills and a proven track record of organising and planning events. You will be able to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision using your own initiative.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is willing to challenge the status quo.
The job will involve attending events and other meetings across the UK and outside normal office hours. A flexible attitude to working hours and working away from the office and/or home is essential.
