We are looking for a new Financial Accountant to work on the finances of the council’s pension fund.
This is a new role, where you will have scope to be creative and help shape the agenda for taking the pension fund forward and promote continuous improvement. It is also a time of significant change for local government pension funds, as they respond to the new Government’s agenda to reshape pension funds, both to improve pension outcomes and placing it on the strongest possible financial footing.
As the Financial Accountant for the pension fund you will:
- Ensure the provision of the highest quality financial administration for the service.
- Provide specialist financial advice and solutions on a broad range of issues.
- Assist the Strategic Manager – Pensions in supporting and guiding the fund on strategic projects and change to ensure best practice and the highest standards of service are maintained.
- Play a key role in supporting the pension board and also reporting to the pension fund committee in managing the scheme and ensuring financial and fund performance information meets all expected standards.
You can offer:
- A full accountancy qualification.
- Familiarity with the requirements of working on year-end accounting statement.
- A detailed knowledge of accounting principles and financial systems.
- Ability to work with financial and accounting information to provide reports to key stakeholders.
- Be highly organised with an ability to work pro-actively and independently.
Direct experience of accounting with a pension fund is not necessarily required but a background of working within the local authority sector or a similar environment on accounting and financial matters is essential.
We value our friendly and supportive workplace culture and encourage staff to develop their skills and also promote working flexibly. Hybrid working will therefore be a feature of the post.
