Our Story:

Halton is a vibrant local authority with a rich history and heritage, featuring two iconic bridges that connect communities across the River Mersey. Located in Cheshire, Halton boasts excellent transport links between Liverpool and Manchester, as well as close proximity to both Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester Airports.

Our progressive community strategy aims to bring about meaningful, long-term improvements that enhance lives. It’s an exciting time to join us as we develop new policies and transform the way people access services.

We are immensely proud that when asked what’s great about working for Halton, the most popular response from our workforce has been ‘our colleagues’.

Our Team:

The Community Safety and Protection division would like to invite applications for the role of CCTV Operator. The post holder will be responsible for the monitoring of Halton’s network of CCTV cameras and ensuring the smooth running of the control room during their shift. The CCTV service is a 24/7 function and the successful candidate will support the 24hr running of the service 7 days per week on a shift basis.

Your Contributions:

Halton Council is seeking to recruit a CCTV Monitoring Operative to work in its control room to monitor and operate public CCTV cameras for public safety, and to detect and deter crime and disorder.

The Control room operates 24 hours a day 7 days per week on a rolling rota basis. Your shifts will be a variation of afternoons, nights and earlies, consisting of 3 x 8 hour shifts, including weekends.

This role plays a crucial part in the prevention and detection of crime and creating a safer public space. It involves liaising with emergency services, partner agencies and internal departments to ensure a timely response is achieved. Handling and dealing sensitively to members of the public who may be experiencing an emergency situation, calling emergency lines requires a calm, compassionate, understanding but practical attitude to positively assist and or advise as required.

The role can be exciting and demanding at times during emergencies and requires a professional and calm approach to situations that can vary greatly. When required, staff are to assist police and others to download data for potential evidence or prosecution purposes whilst maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and retain the necessary SIA CCTV licence for which training is provided, and shall pass and retain appropriate police vetting for the role due to sensitive information sharing and use of police radio.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

· Experience of working in a control room or security setting, monitoring CCTV for multiple sites

· Excellent communication skills to liaise with other agencies during challenging situations

· An ability to react calmly and quickly in an emergency

· An ability to work without supervision.

Our Offer:

Aside from working with a great team, our employees have access to a fantastic range of benefits, including:

· A generous annual holiday allowance starting at 34 days per year (including bank holidays), increasing with long service, pro-rata for part-time hours

· Membership of our defined benefit, salary-linked Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) with generous employer contributions

· 3 x Salary Life Cover via Local Government Pension Scheme

· Investment in your personal development

· Free Car Parking at HBC sites

· Car leasing schemes

Next Steps:

At Halton Borough Council, we want all of our candidates to feel well-informed so if you would like to have an informal chat about this role, please contact Laura Stanley CCTV Manager – Laura.Stanley@halton.gov.uk
