Uttlesford Area (Hybrid)
Permanent, Full time
Career Grade 5-6 £30,559 - £37,035
Requirement for some out of hours working.
Uttlesford District is consistently identified as one of the best places to live in the UK. We’re ideally located, with easy access to London and Cambridge and an international airport on our doorstep, and yet, the district still retains its rural character, alongside its market towns and villages.
We are seeking a flexible, self-motivated and enthusiastic officer to join our small multidisciplinary Environmental Health (Protection) Team.
The team includes responsibilities for Private Sector Housing Enforcement and consists of a small group of people passionate about improving conditions in the private rented sector. As part of this role, you will inspect residential properties and take advisory and enforcement action to ensure that landlords achieve compliance with statutory requirements. You will also be required to prepare reports, consider, and carry out enforcement action, including recommendation for legal proceedings where appropriate and ensure that records and electronic filing systems are fully maintained and updated.
The role will suit a qualified or experienced officer; however, Uttlesford District Council is keen to support talented, aspiring applications from persons with a background of housing or enforcement. Support to achieve qualifications in Private Sector Housing will be provided as part of a career progression scheme.
The successful applicant will need to have a ‘can do’ attitude to work, be self-motivated, flexible, take responsibility for a varied workload, be an effective communicator, committed to team working and willing to deliver exceptional customer service.
A full driving licence and access to a car available for work is essential. From time to time, there will be a requirement for some out of hours working.
Uttlesford District Council is a family friendly Council and embraces hybrid working. We encourage and support our employees to have a healthy work life balance as well as offering a range of benefits including generous annual leave, Flexi-time, leisure centre discounts, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and an online platform offering discounts from online retailers.
For an informal discussion please contact Marcus Watts, Environmental Health Manager (Protection) on 01799 510482.
