Hours: 37.0
Location: Stevenage
Contract Type: Permanent
Directorate: Childrens Services
About the team
The Separated Migrant Children and Care leavers Service supports individuals who have travelled to the UK seeking sanctuary, by way of offering practical and emotional intervention to help provide stability and safety through our duty under the Childrens Act 2004. This includes accommodation, education and training support, health and mental wellbeing input, asylum support and wider access to additional resources and networks within the community to help grow a 'family' around each of the young people we work with. We work with our young people from the point of referral into our service (between 12-17 years old), up until they reach 25 years old.
The service is made up of four teams, which includes a Team Manager, Consultant Social Workers, Social Workers and Personal Advisors. We have one Child Practitioner and are looking to recruit a second in order to help provide wider support with direct work and more opportunities for our young people to access a point of contact for housing or asylum support from the service.
It is a really exciting time for us as we continue to grow as a service, and the introduction of a second Child Practitioner will allow us to creatively progress ideas and opportunities to engage our cohort more meaningfully, gather their views and provide them with experiences and opportunities to come together.
We work closely with a wide range of services, including the Home Office, Policing teams, Housing, Health, Education and Employment Services, Probation
and the Prison Service, Interpreting and Family Tracing and community-based support opportunities designed to increase networks and systems around our young people, who have no family within the UK. We also link in closely with our Participation Service, to look at improving the ways in which we support young people, and identifying groups and activities which they would benefit from and will help them reach their potential.

Arranging and supporting young people to attend relevant appointments inc. asylum and health
Acting as key point of contact with District Housing Teams - completing relevant paperwork to progress transition plans for young people moving into independent living-Administrative tasks including completing referrals for key documentation, support services and financial requests
