Since 1 April 2018 Barnsley Museums has been a National Portfolio Organisation, funded by Arts Council England. We are also in receipt of Museums and Schools funding from DCMS.
As part of our ambitious and exciting programme we are seeking to recruit an experienced programmer and deliverer of formal learning activities to work in our and venues and local schools to increase engagement with our museums and collections, and diversify our audiences.
We believe that museums can change lives through innovative, challenging, targeted and high-quality programmes which tackle the complex social issues we face across our borough. We want everyone to be able to experience great art and great culture.

With responsibility for further developing, and implementing, our core programme, you will be part of our award-winning Learning Service. You will have significant experience in this field, be able to work with a network of organisations and individuals to encourage arts participation in areas of low engagement with a creative approach.
You will be committed to the sector, have a passion for the transformational potential of culture and share our ambition to be excellent.
This is a maternity cover role for up to 1-year.
Your role in our journey
As a Formal Learning and Access Officer, you’ll support the delivery of our Formal Learning programme across Barnsley Museums’ venues. You will develop and deliver engaging and curriculum focussed workshops and resources both at our sites and in schools. Working with our Local Cultural Education Partnership and BMBC partners, you’ll work to ensure children and young people across the Borough have access to inspiring cultural opportunities. You will also lead on our access offer, ensuring our venues are as inclusive and accessible as they can be. Every day, you’ll make a difference, in line with our strategic vision for the Museums. It’s all about making sure the museums reach the high standards our communities deserve to enjoy.
