Let’s make a better Barnsley for everyone.\nYour role in our journey\nWe an opportunity to join our team as Senior Civil Contingencies Advisor to lead a small team acting as a focus for the Council’s work as a Category One responder and core partner in South Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum. You will manage the team and provide specialist support to a wide range of council services and external organisations. We’re seeking people to support making sure we comply with all legislation, guidance and appropriate practice in relation to civil contingencies across our diverse services (including schools). You will support a range of people with advice and guidance, and assist to develop our planning, response, recovery and business continuity arrangements, develop and deliver training and exercises and be an integral business partner to our services. As part of a wider team responsible for emergency planning, in the event of incidents and emergencies you will directly be involved in the Council’s response be it an incident affecting communities or the Council (for this occasional work outside normal office hours will be required and the post is part of a standby duty rota for which additional payment is made).\nWhat you’ll need\nTo join us you’ll need to have completed relevant level 5 (or above) training and qualifications and/or have substantial demonstrable experience of leading in a similar role with a Civil Contingencies Act Category One Responder; and also be a member of an appropriate emergency planning/resilience organisation. You’ll bring to the role a strong track record of achievement relevant to the post applied for including:\n· Providing advice and guidance to managers and external agencies.\n· Expertise in designing and delivering effective training programs to ensure that individuals and teams are well-prepared for emergency situations.\n· Con-ordinating multi-service and multi-agency working. \n· Familiarity with emergency management technologies.\n· Ability to develop and implement comprehensive emergency plans, considering a wide range of potential scenarios and hazards.\n· Strong leadership skills to guide teams and make critical decisions in high-pressure situations.\n· Capacity to analyse complex situations, identify challenges, and develop effective solutions.\nA lot to look forward to\nHere at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do.
