Hours: 37.0
Location: Hertfordshire
Contract Type: Fixed Term End Date
Directorate: Childrens Services
About the team
Elective Home Education is growing within Hertfordshire County Council. Do you want to make a positive impact and be part of an area of growth and challenge?
The Elective Home Education team supports and provides guidance to parents who have chosen to educate their child outside of the school system. We are a very experienced team made up of Officers and Coordinators who are committed to achieving the best outcomes for children and young people in Hertfordshire.
You will work alongside the EHE Officers and will be expected to establish excellent working relationships with a variety of professionals eg: EHC plan Coordinators, social workers.
You will learn and develop sound practice through an established induction programme and ongoing professional support.
About the role
This is a key role, responsible for supporting the EHE process from the start of a child's EHE journey. You will check for any existing concerns or safeguarding factors for the child and alert the Officers to any identified. You will open up EHE records and then try to engage parents and encourage them to share details of the home education that they are providing so that we can identify children who are not in receipt of a full time, suitable education.
You will offer families relevant information in order that they can make an informed decision as to whether they would like to home educate and once they have taken that decision, offer useful information so they can provide their child with a suitable education.
You will be regularly checking the EHE email inbox, responding to queries where possible and directing the email to the appropriate Officer when necessary. You will also be taking incoming calls, dealing with queries, signposting to local support offers and providing accurate home education information.
You will ensure system reporting is accurate and that processes and practices are followed to maintain consistency across the county. You will need to provide details of conversations and email/text correspondence on our systems.
You may be asked to email relevant information to families about events or activities available from other Hertfordshire teams or externally.
You will provide administrative support to the team which will involve a variety of tasks eg: checking with schools when a child has gone on/off roll, closing EHE cases when the young person has reached the end of compulsory school age.
You will work collaboratively with professionals across services to ensure effective case management, integrated working practice and successful outcomes for children.
About you
Your customer service skills must be of a high standard to be able to listen to and support parents whilst also sharing important information regarding expectations around home education. You will contact parents in a variety of ways ie: letter, email, text, call, voicemail, Teams calls so being confident in all these communication methods is essential.
You will have excellent IT skills to be able to navigate systems to find and record information. You should be proficient in Word and ideally Excel and PowerPoint.
We are looking for someone who is meticulous in record keeping and who can make accurate and detailed notes. You will have excellent organisational skills and be able to manage multiple ongoing tasks. You will ensure data compliance by following the guidance provided during your training.
You should enjoy routine and carrying out administrative tasks as well as being adaptable and reactive to new challenges as they arise.
You will need to work as part of a team and also be self motivated to work independently and unsupervised.
You should be able to travel between workplaces for meetings.
Your responsibilities and tasks may change according to the needs of the team.
