Starting Salary: £12.26ph for paid
Hours: 45 minutes morning and afternoon 5 days a week - term time only & area relief positions to cover absences

About the team

We employ over 150 paid school crossing patrols, who safely ensure children and other pedestrians are escorted across roads. Each patrol will have a team lead that provides the patrols with supervision and support.

About the role

We have various opportunities across schools in Hertfordshire. You'll be able to select your location preferences within the application form, and we'll be in touch with you to discuss what opportunities are available in these locations.

The duties include:

• Ensure the safety of children, parents and other pedestrians waiting to cross or whilst crossing the road.
• Take appropriate action when emergency or hazardous situations arise.
• Give clear signals to drivers, so as to stop traffic in a safe and courteous manner.
• Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site.
• Encourage pedestrians to use the crossing point and to have regard for the needs of people with disabilities.

About you

• No previous experience is required, and full training will be provided along with a uniform
• Have great customer service with children, drivers, parents, and teachers
• You'll need to be able to work every school day, therefore you won't be able to take holidays in term time.
• Ability to communicate confidently with adults and children, therefore good interpersonal skills are required.
• To be physically and mentally able to judge and foresee hazardous situations as they occur in relation to traffic.
• To be able to stand throughout and walk continuously for the duration of a shift, holding a school crossing patrol sign (up to 2kg) (up to 45 minutes).
• A sound road sense and an awareness of the effect of weather conditions on road users.
• To be able to work in all weather conditions.
