We are excited to be recruiting a new Business Investment Manager. This role will lead and champion the work Enterprising Barnsley delivers around inward investment, focusing on driving occupancy of all commercial property types across the borough and implementing key investment projects in line with current Barnsley Council Objectives.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about enhancing Barnsley's economic strength through inward investment. The ideal candidate will have a solid track record in the commercial property development sector and an established network within the industry. This role will cover all elements of investment management, from initial enquiry though to handing over to relationship managers once a business has moved in.
The Business Investment Manager will be responsible for developing and managing a lead generation strategy for Barnsley, coordinating all inward investment promotional activity, and ensuring effective follow-up mechanisms are implemented. The role also involves building strong strategic relationships with internal and external partners, including the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Inward Investment Team, to position Barnsley as a potential business location for a wide range of industries.
Key responsibilities include:
· Leading on the management and development of all elements of inward investment.
· Work alongside developers and agents to help bring forward key development and employment sites across the borough.
· Coordinating all inward investment promotional activity and developing an enquiry management process for inward investors.
· Proactively liaising, negotiating, influencing, and collaborating with a range of internal and external partners.
· Developing opportunities and projects aimed at increasing the levels of investment into Barnsley.
· Keeping abreast of wider developments within the commercial property market to enhance the service accordingly.
· Managing a team of staff, providing direction and coordination of workloads, support, and guidance.
· Continuously reviewing and evaluating service provision to ensure it is fit for purpose and drives continuous improvement.
The right individual will be able to manage a range of projects in parallel, balancing the needs of the businesses and individuals we are working with, whilst making sure contractual outcomes are met, and stakeholder expectations are managed. Tight budgetary control and obtaining best value for money is a key element of this role to make sure the resources allocated have the biggest impact possible.
This is a customer-facing role, and the right person will need to act as an ambassador for BMBC, Enterprising Barnsley, and the projects they are delivering. The role requires flexibility, as some travel will be needed, as well as working some ad hoc evenings and weekends.
If you are passionate about driving economic growth and have the skills and experience to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.
Please note, shortlisting for this role will take place week commencing 21st April 2025 with interviews being held on Thursday 1st May 2025.
