The Borough’s cultural and heritage sector has grown extensively over the last ten years and delivers a national quality offer in a local landscape. Its significant recent achievements include Experience Barnsley being shortlisted for Art Fund’s Museum of the Year prize in 2021, Kids in Museums Best Accessible Family Friendly Museum of the Year 2022 and the Sandford Award for Excellence in Heritage Learning at Worsbrough Mill 2023. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The museums and archives at Barnsley Council are a fundamental part of that thriving cultural ecology in the Borough. This unique set of assets includes Cannon Hall Museum and Gardens, the Cooper Gallery, Elsecar Heritage Centre, Experience Barnsley and Worsbrough Mill, as well as the Borough’s Archives. Our museums have become ever more popular. 1.8 million people visited our sites during 2023/2024, and we have begun ambitious developments at Elsecar Heritage Centre and Cannon Hall which will transform the visitor experience and provide further opportunities for engagement with our communities. The museums service is an Arts Council England (ACE) National Portfolio organisation and Barnsley is an ACE Priority Place. Our exhibitions highlight Barnsley's own excellent collections, create opportunities for our audiences to co-curate and bring world-class loans and touring exhibitions to the borough. We are now looking to the next phase of developing the exhibitions programme and wish to recruit to the post of Exhibitions Officer as a key part of making this happen.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>As part of the curatorial team, you will play a highly important role in shaping this programme, delivering exhibitions and working creatively and collaboratively with colleagues across the service in collections, learning, community engagement, digital, commercial and marketing, as well as partners from across the Borough and beyond. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>You will have experience of managing exhibition projects and teams from concept to completion and have excellent organisational and communication skills. You will also have experience of working with local communities and using audience data to diversify and grow audiences.
