This opportunity is currently being offered on a fixed term contract basis of 24 months; however, if budgets allow the contract length may be extended and/or become permanent, though this is not guaranteed. If an internal council employee wishes to apply for this role, a secondment opportunity may be considered (please state this on your application).
We are currently recruiting for an Income & Arrears Officer on a fixed term contract for 2 years. You will be required to develop and maintain effective working relationships with tenants within a defined geographic area, with a view to engaging their cooperation in paying their rent, working with other relevant agencies/services where required.
Ensuring tenants comply with the terms and conditions of tenancy or licence agreements, particularly as they relate to the payment of rent and former tenant arrears and that appropriate action is taken to prevent arrears accruing.
To carry out detailed and regular monitoring of individual rent accounts, taking appropriate action as set out in the Council’s rent arrears policy and procedures.
To use initiative and judgement in considering the most effective and appropriate methods to contact tenants such as by letters, telephone, text messages, emails and home and office visits.
To completed PCOL (DIY possession) - applications to the courts for tenancy breaches due to rent arrears. To represent the Council at court to seek, and then monitor suspended possessions orders, outright orders and adjourned cases.
To undertake safeguarding checks, notify the relevant agencies of pending evictions, arrange locksmiths with Repairs Team, and liaise with Bailiffs, Police, Social Services as and when applicable.
To signpost and refer tenants to the appropriate support agencies.
To conduct regular tenancy audits to enable the authority to confirm tenancy and to identify any cases of tenancy fraud.
To take an active role in team tasks such as targeted rent campaigns, and data collection exercises.
To support resident involvement activities, such as fun days and individual mechanisms in conjunction with the Community Development Officer.
