This post is 9 hours a week (3 nights) evening work for initially a 6 month period
In this role, you will be part of a dedicated team that operates three nights a week across different locations in the Blaenau Gwent borough. Your primary responsibility will be to provide detached youth work support to young individuals aged 11-25. This entails building strong relationships with them, gaining a deeper understanding of their unique needs, and connecting them with other youth settings and services where necessary. You will also play a vital role in providing them with valuable information, support, and opportunities for personal growth. Ultimately, your work will empower these young people to actively contribute towards enhancing community cohesion in the area.
An exciting and rewarding opportunity has opened for 5 enthusiastic individuals to join a newly established detached team within Blaenau Gwent Youth Service. The team will operate in pairs and will help provide a range of activities, mentoring, support and provide information and guidance to young people through a detached youth work model.
As a Detached Youth Worker, you will work as part of a small team of youth workers, working with young people on the streets in their territory. The Detached Youth Worker will also be responsible for planning and delivering a programme of led by and supported by the young people.
You will develop strong links with partners and the surrounding community to help meet the needs of the young people and community; to provide a holistic programme of work, whilst also addressing barriers some young people may face.
Based remotely on a detached basis, you will also have experience of working face to face with young people in a variety of settings. Some previous experience of working with young people through a detached work model is essential.
