Driver/Assistant (HLS and Bookstart Service)

We are seeking an organised and highly motivated individual to perform the vital function of Driver/Assistant for our Home Library Service and Bookstart offer. The key duties associated with this role include: -
- To input, check and maintain a variety of data and manual systems, ensuring information is accurate and stored correctly.
- To use Library Management systems to issue, deliver and discharge library stock items and load/unload these into and out of the service vehicle.
- To ensure the safety, security and efficient use of a council vehicle including completion of mandatory vehicle checks, tyres, oil, fuel and electronics.
- Ensure compliance to both council driving standards as well as national legislation related to operating a vehicle on the highway.
- To deliver excellent customer service, polite, friendly and efficient when dealing with service users.
This role will involve working as part of job share, with alternating patterns of attendance across a two-week cycle with a colleague. This will be comprised of two 6:30 shifts either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday and a 3:00 shift on Wednesdays. The role will primarily be based in Wellington House, Barnsley, but this could be subject to change depending on service requirements. You will report directly to a Library Manager and will be expected to carry out allocated work in accordance with the respective job profile to a high standard of quality and safety.
This role involves manual activities such as loading and delivery of library resources, as such you should be physically fit, and have experience of using a vehicle in a business background specifically completing deliveries to a wide range of customers. The role also involves use of IT systems related to the delivery of the Home Library Service so candidates should have a working knowledge of using electronic systems to complete administrative tasks to a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
