An exciting opportunity has become available for a confident, experienced individual to lead one of our Business Support Teams. If you thrive on variety this could be the role for you. The position offers an opportunity to work at both an operational and strategic level and take the lead on developing systems and delivering change that creates efficient processes and an agile workforce.
The Senior Business Support Officer has a critical role in the management of the Regeneration and Development Management team for Business Support. Having direct supervision responsibility for approx. 9 staff, alongside leading a wider team of 14 that supports a variety of functions for the Development Services, Electoral Registration and Regeneration teams.
The post holder will coordinate business support across a number of areas with particular focus on overseeing the general day to day operating of Development Management administration; this will include managing the processing of applications to Planning, Building Control and our Estate Teams. You will work closely with the service to develop a knowledge of the Local Planning Authority and provide advice/guidance to members of the public. Experience of using GIS systems would be advantageous.
The post-holder will also play a key role in supporting the development of systems and processes across the wider service areas, taking a lead role in the management of the iDox system for Planning alongside other corporate systems.
The range of services operating from this team is diverse and many positive changes have been made over recent years, with the introduction of new systems and different ways of working. The successful post holder will continue to embed and improve existing systems, engaging with colleagues in Corporate Services as part of existing service reviews and digital programmes.
Excellent communication skills are essential with the post holder requiring to engage with, and develop, positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders across the council at all levels, and ultimately to members of the public.
Experience of managing staff working in an agile environment and being able to adapt own workload and the priorities of others will be essential. The operational demands of the Regen and Development Management team can change quickly, the Senior Business Support Officer will need to be able to adapt to the changing demands quickly and professionally.
The ideal candidate will be supported by a dedicated and knowledgeable team, regular attendance at an office environment will be expected within this role, however this will be managed in line with existing risk assessments and service requirements
