About the Role:
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Bereavement Services Assistant to join our dedicated team. This role is crucial in providing support to bereaved families and ensuring the smooth operation of our crematorium and cemetery services.
Main Responsibilities:
- Bookings Management: Take bookings for the Crematorium and Cemetery.
- Form Processing: Ensure cremation and burial forms comply with relevant legislation.
- Customer Service: Handle enquiries from the public, funeral directors, and clergy via electronic communication, telephone, and in person.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain both computerised and manual records and registers.
- Funeral Service Facilitation: Facilitate and be present at funeral services, ensuring all legal requirements are met.
- Grave Management: Mark out graves and ensure dug graves meet specified standards.
- Memorial Management: Process cemetery memorial applications, inspect memorials, and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Public Assistance: Assist the public in selecting memorialisation options and manage the storage or disposal of cremated remains.
- Financial Administration: Handle financial tasks including raising invoices, managing petty cash, and arranging for payment of invoices.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Exercise personal responsibilities under the Health and Safety Act and other related legislation and policies.
- Additional Duties: Undertake other relevant duties as required by the Head of Housing, Health & Environment.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail.
- Empathy and the ability to support bereaved families with sensitivity.
- Proficiency in IT and experience with record-keeping systems.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and health and safety practices.

Working hours will be between 8.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (37 hours per week).
