Enterprising Barnsley is the council’s business support service, offering a range of services which support businesses and entrepreneurs to Start, Grow, Innovate, and Invest in Barnsley.
Our DMC CreatorLab and MakerLab facilities host a range of equipment and tools to support businesses across Barnsley and South Yorkshire to test new ideas, refine existing products, and find new routes to market.
The CreatorLab features a suite of audiovisual equipment for business to experiment with video, photography, podcasting, and virtual reality, while the MakerLab hosts 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, fabric printers, and an electronics station.
We are seeking a Lab Technician to join our DMC team to lead and work in these two spaces: a personable and welcoming individual with experience of working in similar maker spaces or labs, and instruction of others in the use of the equipment, tools, and machinery found in our labs.
This role will be focused on delivering the South Yorkshire Innovation Programme (SYIP) in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) the University of Sheffield (UoS), and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA).
SYIP supports businesses across South Yorkshire at any point in their innovation journey, whether they need help to ‘Discover’ new technologies through attending workshops and experimenting in our CreatorLab and MakerLab, ‘Deploy’ an off-the-shelf innovation solution with funded consultancy support, or ‘Develop’ their own bespoke business innovation with the support of academic specialists.
The Enterprising Barnsley team is responsible for the ‘Discover’ element of the programme, providing businesses with access to our CreatorLab and MakerLab facilities and the opportunity to experiment with new technologies, along with workshops and other events focused on specific technologies.
If you are passionate about business innovation and have the skills and experience to drive forward our projects, we would love to hear from you.
Interviews for this role are planned to be scheduled for the week commencing 14/04/2025.
