We are looking for an experienced Public Health Strategist to join the Public Health Team and to work team within the Child Death Review Hub.
This primary purpose of this critical role is to prevent future child deaths. The role provides public health expertise to the Child Death Review System, which seeks to learn from child deaths to prevent future deaths and improve health and wellbeing of children and families across the boroughs of Newham Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, City & Hackney.
The CDOP and Child Death Review (CDR) System across Newham Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Hackney and City is managed from the London Borough of Newham on behalf of the other 5 Boroughs in one area of North East London. The CDOP in this area works closely with Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge (BHR) CDOP, particularly in collating and analysing data around child deaths in North East London.
This post will deliver a Public Health programme of work as a part of the Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) process with the aim of contributing to a reduction in number of preventable child deaths. The main elements of this will be to:
- Develop and implement an evidence-based approach to preventing child death in the boroughs of Newham, Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets, City and Hackney
- Develop a systematic approach to sharing and disseminating the learning from child deaths across all boroughs with an overarching aim of preventing and reducing child deaths.
- Work closely with the CDOP Manager to analyse child death data and its interpretation to inform our public health approach to preventing child deaths
This is a fast moving team, used to finding and implementing solutions to some of the borough’s biggest challenges.
About the Job
- As part of the public health team, this post will support Public Health programmes to reduce inequalities and improve health in Newham.
- Reporting to the Assistant Director for Public Health, this job is about leading our work programmes to improve health and reduce inequality. It requires close partnership working with our voluntary sector partners, NHS maternity services and commissioners, and Newham Council’s Children’s Services
- This requires strong partnership collaboration, skills in determining local needs and how they can be best addressed including implementing public health policies, national guidance, commissioning and use of evidence-based interventions
- Collaboration with a range of partners and stakeholders will be essential
About You
You will need to hit the ground running with energy and experience but with lots of support from the team as you take on this important role. As a part of this role, you will:
- Contribute to work on the assessment of local health needs and assist in the interpretation and implementation of public health policies, national guidance and the evidence base to increase healthy in Newham
- Participate in the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of public health interventions and programmes, services and strategic plans relating to child death.
- Enjoy bringing partners together to deliver projects, with strong partnership working skills
- Need excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple areas of work at once
- Build partnerships and continuously identify opportunities for collaboration to create the best health for our young people
- Be able to review public health interventions and evaluate their impact and cost-effectiveness
